THURSDAY THEMES TO GROW ON: TECHNOLOGY

FACETIME, YUP, FACETIME.  I "facetimed" my first bedtime story to my grandson tonight.  He's only 2 and he loved the story, "If You Take a Mouse to School" read to him over my i-phone to his mommy's i-phone.  WOW!  I read it twice.  That's all I can say is "WOW"!  Then we kissed our phones and said "nighty, night"!  It's a fast paced, crazy world we live in.

A couple of great books with a message about Technology "Overload"  is "When Charlie McButton Lost Power" and "It's a Book" by Lane Smith

READING MY ABC BOOK, INTENTLY!

My cutest 2 year old grandson, who is all boy, takes a minute's break to relax and read!  He has been zooming around the house and outside NONSTOP, had a bath, and gone shopping with me.  I showed him his new books and he settled himself down, (he wanted his very own chair), and began pointing and quietly naming pictures.  This is the beginning of language, of reading, for real.  It's called phonological awareness.   THIS, OF COURSE, MAKES ME SMILE FROM EAR TO EAR!

Speaking of ears, he has has 15+ ear infections, tubes, ruptured eardrums  and a couple of surgeries since he was born.  The last surgery has really helped him, he hears better and now is speaking in sentences.  YEAH!  Isn't he just a stinking dolly!  I think so!

This book came out in 2011, so it's relatively new.  My cute grandson, William, who likes to be called Sir William the Bravest Knight and is 4 and lives in Washington state, (much to my chagrin), eats, sleeps and breathes all things "KNIGHTS".   This book is about this very thing, a little boy who dreams of nothing else but being a horse riding, sword wielding, brave knight.  It's a must have for any little guy who adores fighting dragons and won't part with his swords, shields and helmet, even when it's the metal kitchen strainer.  :)

called "Brava, Strega Nona, a Heart Warming Pop-Up Book" by Tomie dePaula

This is THE most AMAZING ENGINEERED "pop-up" book I have ever seen, truly, and I have seen my fair share.  If you haven't seen this book, find it, because you have to take a look at it.  Of course you'll have a hard time resisting buying it!!!!!  It is one in a million!

As we all know, "Pop-Up" books and 2 year old toddlers don't mix real well, 

so he looked at it with lots of help, gently.  :)
